Free Catch the Spirit Tours August 16

Uspiritus, a non-profit organization helping kids and families heal, will host free Catch the Spirit Tours on Tuesday, Aug. 16. Choose the time and location convenient for you:

  • noon-1 p.m. in the Uspiritus-Bellewood Administration Building, 11103 Park Road in Anchorage, or
  • 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Uspiritus-Brooklawn Administration Building, 3121 Brooklawn Campus Drive

While you enjoy a delicious meal, find out more about our mission and services, and how you can kick up your involvement. A brief tour of campus is also offered.

Barno promoted to Human Resources Manager

Bethany Barno

Bethany Barno has been promoted to Human Resources Manager at Uspiritus.

Barno has worked at Uspiritus for almost three years as Human Resources Specialist. She was previously a Human Resources Coordinator at Zappos in Shepherdsville, which was later acquired by Amazon Fulfillment Center, where she was employed for more than three years. Prior to that, she was a Senior Human Resources Assistant at Kindred Healthcare for seven years.

Barno is a Society for Human Resources Certified Professional (SHRM-CP).

In her role at Uspiritus, Barno oversees the employee benefits program, HR administrative functions, manages leave of absence programs and agency audit administration, coordinates the employee wellness program, and leads the Employee Recognition Committee.

Ryan promoted to PRTF Clinical Director

Kathryn Ryan

Kathryn Ryan has been promoted to Private Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) Clinical Director at Uspiritus.

Ryan has worked at Uspiritus for three years as primary therapist in Stone Cottage on the Bellewood campus in Anchorage. She was previously a therapist for two years at Seven Counties Services in the Acute Child Psychiatric Services program.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and fine arts from Loyola University in Chicago and a master’s degree in counseling and personnel services with a concentration in art therapy from the University of Louisville.

In her role at Uspiritus, Ryan oversees PRTF services, which are located on the Brooklawn campus at in Louisville. PRTF is a program for youth who require intensive 24/7 psychiatric treatment in a residential setting.

Parson joins Uspiritus as Outpatient Services clinical manager

Mark Parson has joined Uspiritus as Outpatient Services clinical manager.

Parson previously worked at Uspiritus as a Community Based Services therapist for five years before leaving to work briefly as a nephrParsonological social worker. Prior to becoming a licensed clinical social worker, Parson was an English professor for approximately 11 years at the University of Louisville, and taught classes at Bellarmine University and Jefferson Community and Technical College.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in English and communications from Bellarmine University, and master’s degrees in English literature and social work from the University of Louisville. In addition to being a licensed clinical social worker, Parson has completed juvenile sex offender and adolescent community reinforcement approach training, and is certified in Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS).

In his role with Uspiritus, Parson will oversee the Outpatient Services program, which works with youth in Jefferson and surrounding counties who are experiencing ongoing behavioral and emotional problems. Services are offered in youth’s home, school or the office on the Uspiritus-Brooklawn campus. Family-based case management services are provided for youth with emotional disabilities, access to medication management and therapy services are offered on a continuum based on need.
